24-Month Postdoctoral Researcher Position
Quenched Quantum Gases / Quantum Simulation (Numerical/Theoretical)
Joint Quantum Centre (JQC) Durham Newcastle (£27,285 - £38,833)
Application Deadline: 24 May 2018
Start Date: 2018 – Early 2019
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Applications are invited to work with Prof. Nick Proukakis on a recently-awarded project entitled “Non-equilibrium dynamics in Atomic systems for QUAntum Simulation” held jointly with Laboratoire Kastler Brossel, Saarland University, Istituto Nazionale di Ottica, Jagiellonian University, University of Cambridge, and ETH Zurich, within the remit of the European-wide QuantERA ERA-NET Cofund in Quantum Technologies.

The successful applicant will develop and implement tools to study the non-equilibrium quenched dynamics of ultra-cold atoms across different phase transitions, as part of a systematic, closely interlinked experimental-theoretical study, working closely with all project partners and in particular experimentalists at Trento (Ferrari-Lamporesi), Paris (Beugnon-Dalibard-Nascimbene) and Cambridge (Hadzibabic).

You should already have (or expect to be awarded soon) a PhD in physics (or applied mathematics), demonstrated expertise and high-quality publications in areas such as ultra-cold atoms, quantum optics, polariton condensates, and/or condensed matter theory and excellent numerical skills. Direct familiarity with non-equilibrium, finite temperature and/or stochastic modelling, and previous postdoctoral research experience in modelling quantum systems are very desirable assets.

Potentially interested applicants are strongly encouraged to make direct informal enquiries with Professor Nick Proukakis ([email protected]).
