PhD and Postdoc Position at Romero-Isart's group

Job type:

Application deadline:

Wednesday, January 15, 2020

The group (https://iqoqi.at/en/group-page-romero-isart) led by Oriol Romero-Isart in Innsbruck (Austria) is currently offering a PhD and a Postdoc position. The earliest starting date is March 1st 2020.

We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic researchers with an excellent scientific record on the areas related to the group research activities, as described below. Women are particularly encouraged to apply.

The group is jointly affiliated with the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP) at the University of Innsbruck. The group studies topics in the fields of theoretical quantum optics and quantum nanophysics in the context of quantum science and technology. One of the main research interests is the observation of quantum phenomena with levitated nanoparticles. Such systems push the boundary of quantum physics into uncharted territory, where the very validity of quantum physics and its interplay with gravity could be put to the test. Achieving this goal requires a fundamental understanding of the internal physics of levitated nanoparticles as well as their interaction with electromagnetic fields. The group is also interested in nano-optics, including topics such as the tailoring of spatio-temporal features of the electromagnetic field, light-matter interaction at the nanoscale, and out-of-equilibrium quantum electrodynamics. From a general perspective, the goal is to propose cutting-edge experiments and to develop the underlying theory while closely collaborating with experimental groups.

PostDoc applications - containing CV, publication list, past research achievements, brief motivation letter including future research plans, and contact details of at least three potential referees - should be submitted electronically using the subject line “PostDoc_2020” to [email protected].

PhD applications - containing CV, publications (if available), grades from university studies, motivation letter, and contact details of at least one potential referee - should be submitted electronically using the subject line “PhD_2020” to [email protected].
