Research group:

We are seeking a motivated doctoral student to join our team and carry out experimental research on "Programmable quantum registers via stroboscopic Rydberg excitation”. The PhD is fully funded for three years as part of the MSCA ITN Molecular Quantum Simulations, and involves planned secondments with collaborators in Italy and Germany.

This experimental project will advance Rydberg-atom based quantum processors and establish a novel platform for solving molecular physics problems using trapped arrays of laser cooled atoms or atomic ensembles. Expected results include speeding up quantum gates using collective qubit encoding ; harnessing dissipation to control quantum dynamics; and the realization of new multiqubit quantum gate protocols exploiting long-range interactions between Rydberg states. This will enable a new generation of quantum simulations and quantum computations involving high quality atomic qubits, enabled by fast and highly programmable Rydberg-mediated interactions.

About the Exotic Quantum Matter group: We offer the possibility to do exciting experiments embedded in a culturally and scientifically rich research environment, situated on the French-German border. We host a state-of-the-art quantum simulator based on optically trapped Rydberg atom qubits. These systems are uniquely suited for studying quantum many-body problems, and applications towards quantum computing. For more information and recent publications, visit: eqm.unistra.fr

Eligibility: Candidates should have a master degree in physics with a background in quantum physics and atomic, molecular and optical physics, as well as experimental research experience in ultracold atoms or optics. The candidate must meet the MSCA mobility criteria of not having spent more than 12 months in France in the last three years at the time of recruitment (before September 2021).
