We are looking for a motivated researcher to join our new Quantum Magnetometry Facility, based on a scanning single spin quantum sensor operating down to cryogenic temperatures. The candidate is expected to push research using the facility, investigating quantum many-body physics and magnetism in 2D materials and moiré heterostructures. Additionally, the project involves collaborations with leading UK and international groups to apply quantum magnetometry to the study of unconventional superconductors, novel heterostructures forming exotic spin textures, materials for spintronics, etc. The position is initially available for 24 months, with funding already secured for a total of 48 months.
Where: the research will be carried out in the Quantum Photonics Lab at Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh, UK), under the supervision of Dr Cristian Bonato. The Quantum Photonics Lab (QPL), jointly led by Dr Bonato and Prof Gerardot, works on quantum devices in different material platforms, such as diamond, SiC, “beyond graphene” 2D materials and III-V semiconductors. The lab hosts state-of-the-art facilities, including several cryostats, superconducting single-photon detectors, tuneable lasers and radio-frequency equipment for high-fidelity spin manipulation.
Who: we are looking for a candidate with an excellent track record, with the ambition to driving leading research on applying quantum magnetometry to study the physics of complex quantum materials. We welcome both candidates with a background in quantum technology, interesting in developing their expertise towards applications of quantum sensing, and candidates with a background in condensed matter physics interested in learning quantum magnetometry as a novel tool to study novel physics in solid-state systems.
We are looking for candidates to start as soon as possible.
Please contact Dr Cristian Bonato ([email protected]) for inquiries (as soon as possible).
