Research Associate with a Master's degree in Chemistry with a minor in Computer Science and an interest in quantum computing

What you will do
As part of our team, you will take responsibility for researching and developing algorithms for quantum computing in chemical-pharmaceutical applications. You will be embedded in a team that is currently being built up, with the opportunity to help shape and contribute to it. The department "Interactive Engineering Technologies" conducts research and development in the area of geometric and physical modeling as well as in the area of simulation and optimization, especially using Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) as co-processors to accelerate computations. This expertise in heterogeneous computing forms the basis for the identification of suitable problems as well as the portable and reusable implementation of quantum algorithms, where quantum computing requires fundamentally different approaches and ways of thinking. These developments contribute to the Center for Applied Quantum Computing (ZAQC), which is currently being established and in which you can be involved from the beginning. The results will serve customers from different industries, e.g., chemistry, pharmaceuticals, transportation, etc.

What we like to see in your profile

  • Successfully completed scientific university studies (Master) in the field of chemistry with a minor in computer science or comparable education – a computer science background is advantageous in any case
  • Experience in computational chemistry and high-performance computing
  • Knowledge of and interest in the new possibilities of quantum computing (QC)
  • Good communication skills in written and oral form (English, German)
  • A detail-oriented, thorough, independent, yet team-oriented work style

What you can expect
People from different disciplines work in our team. We offer an open working and communication environment where you can participate with your developments and contribute your ideas. In cooperation with the TU Darmstadt, a doctorate is also possible. If a doctoral thesis is desired, this can be done in the subject areas of algorithms and applications of quantum computing, preferably at the Department of Computer Science - there are also connections to the Department of Chemistry at the TU Darmstadt.

Employment, remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD) - here EG13.

Earliest possible start date: 1.9.2022
