The group of Asst. Prof. Wen Wei Ho at the Department of Physics, National University of Singapore (NUS), specializing in nonequilibrium quantum many-body physics and quantum information science, is seeking highly motivated candidates at the postdoctoral and PhD levels.
About the research:
Research thrusts include, but are not limited to:
- Developing theories for novel nonequilibrium quantum many-body phenomena realized by synthetic quantum matter (cold atoms, Rydberg atoms, trapped ions, etc.), utilizing the lens of quantum information theory (entanglement, tensor networks). Specific topics include deep thermalization, measurement-induced randomness, measurement-induced entanglement phases, dynamical phases of matter, ergodicity-breaking phenomena etc.;
- Developing applications for current and near-term quantum technologies including blueprints for quantum simulation of complex collective phenomena, novel ways for measurement-based quantum computation, and hardware-friendly protocols for quantum state tomography.
Please see the principal investigator's google scholar page https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=vvKdv5kAAAAJ&hl=en and personal webpage for more information: https://sites.google.com/view/wenweiho/ There will be ample opportunities to collaborate with world renowned experimental groups of cold atoms, superconducting circuits, and Rydberg atoms, including those at nearby Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) in Singapore.
About the positions:
For PhD candidates, please refer to https://nusgs.nus.edu.sg/programme/phdphysics/ and links therein for details. Please note the application deadlines of 15 Nov/15 May for entry into the Aug/Jan intakes (of the following year), and the requirements for GREs and TOEFLs, though these can be waived for strong candidates. You will be sponsored by a generous NUS research scholarship, and provided benefits as well as travel funds for conferences and collaborations.
For postdoctoral candidates, the start-date is flexible (can be immediate or at a later date). The appointment is for 2 years fixed term, with the possibility of extending by 1 year subject to performance and funding. Candidates should be familiar with methods in quantum many-body theory, preferably quantum-information theoretic ones like the use of entanglement and tensor-networks etc. Previous experience with experiments involving quantum simulators is a plus, and expertise in computational methods is also highly desirable. Candidates should have (or be about to acquire) a PhD in physics or related field. This research position comes with a very competitive salary, benefits, and ample travel funds for conferences and collaborations.
Application procedure:
For PhD applicants are to first contact Prof. Ho directly (email: [email protected]) and to provide the following: a cover letter with brief description of research interests and CV with list of publications. After successful preliminary screening, you will be asked to submit a formal application to the PhD program in physics at NUS.
For Postdocs, please go to https://careers.nus.edu.sg/job-invite/17636/ to submit your application. You will need a cover letter with a brief description of research interests, CV with list of publications, and contact information (email address) of four referees, one of whom should be your PhD advisor.
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue till positions are filled. Questions are to be sent directly to Prof. Ho ([email protected]), and are more than welcome.
About the location:
