We are currently offering two attractive three-year postdoctoral research positions to highly motivated and well-qualified researchers who intend to enhance their career in quantum information science and many-body physics. The successful candidate will work as part of the research group led by Jens Eisert at the FU Berlin. The positions are funded in parts by the German BMBF hardware grant scheme and in parts by the Helmholtz Foundation, and are connected to a newly established research network on near-term quantum computing within the German excellence initiative as well as to the European Quantum Flagship.

Position 1: Quantum error correction

Possible topics include quantum code design, specifically of topological codes, the development of protocols for quantum error correction or of decoders, studies of preparations of quantum states relevant for Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill codes, as well as mathematical studies of topological phases of matter relating to notions of quantum error correction. We have access to data from leading experimental groups in the field.

Position 2: Quantum simulation or tensor networks

For this position, topics include classical simulations using tensor networks in higher dimensions, methods of quantum systems identification and Hamiltonian learning for quantum simulators, ideas of spin to fermion mappings, the mathematics of the study of phases of matter, and techniques for manipulating ultra-cold atoms in optical lattices or trapped ions. Again, we are closely connected with experimental leaders in the group and have access to substantial computational resources.

Applicants must have demonstrated excellent research accomplishments in the past. Candidates should hold a PhD degree in physics, mathematics or computer science. Interested candidates are invited to submit
