The Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) in the School of Physics at Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), China, invites applications for Master, PhD as well as Postdoc candidates. The IQOQI is one of the leading institutes in the research areas related to quantum optics and quantum information science in China. The research interests of IQOQI cover a wide variety of topics ranging from theoretical to experimental physics, e.g., Quantum Storage with atoms (http://gr.xjtu.edu.cn/web/honggao), Quantum Information with photons (https://gr.xjtu.edu.cn/web/zhangpei/english), Quantum Many-body Physics in cold atoms (https://gr.xjtu.edu.cn/web/yongchang/home), etc. The prospective candidates will work with the PI of the above groups, and also have the opportunity to closely interact with other members within the School of Physics.

The Master and PhD positions are offered for, respectively, 3 years and 4 years, starting from 1 Sep. 2023, and funded by the Chinese Government Scholarship. Please see more details about the scholarship in the following link: http://sie.xjtu.edu.cn/en/Application_Guide/Pre_admission_Letter_Applica... (deadline: 31 Jan. 2023). The Master candidates should major in the subjects of either atomic physics, condensed-matter physics, or optics. Successful PhD candidates should have or be close to completing a Master’s Degree in theoretical/experimental atomic/optical physics and are expected to have experience with atomic/optical experiments, research on cold atom physics, or numerical simulation of quantum many-body physics.

The Postdoc positions are offered for 2 years (an extension is possible), with a flexible starting date. There are regularly available postdoc positions every year, and we accept applications all year round. Successful candidates should have (<3 years), or be close to completing a PhD in theoretical/experimental quantum information, quantum many-body physics, cold atom physics, or optics. And the applicants are expected to have a competitive research track record in the fields including, but not limited to, the aforementioned research topics at IQOQI.

To apply, please send your (1) CV (with a publication list for PhD and Postdoc applicants), (2) a brief research statement, (3) a research plan (for PhD and Postdoc applicants), and (4) a cover letter including your motivation to work at XJTU to Dr. Wang ([email protected]). If you are interested in quantum optics, quantum information as well as cold-atom physics, and would like to pursue exciting research in these areas, please do not hesitate to contact us ([email protected]) for more information about these positions.

In addition, XJTU also provides competitive financial support as well as rich opportunities for career development for outstanding postdocs through the following two programs, and we will recommend and fully support the excellent postdoc candidates to apply for these scholarship/talent programs:
1. Postdoctoral International Exchange Program of China Western Overseas Postdoc Innovation Demonstration Center: This program is funded by a Chinese Government Scholarship, and opens for application two times every year (May and August). The annual salary is ¥200000/year, and the successful candidate can enjoy equal benefits as the inland postdoc.
2. Young Excellent Talents Program of XJTU: This program is supported by XJTU and accepts applications all year round. It comes with a very competitive salary (¥300000/year) and benefits (social insurance, rent subsidy, etc.). Additionally, it also provides diverse promotion opportunities, such as senior researcher positions as well as higher-level talent programs.

The School of Physics of XJTU offers ideal working conditions in a welcoming and stimulating environment based on the “MOE Key Laboratory for Nonequilibrium Synthesis and Modulation of Condensed Matter” as well as the “Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Quantum Information and Quantum Optoelectronic Devices”, which bring together local researchers as well as visitors to closely interact and address challenges in the vibrant research directions and thus provide a promising platform to foster and promote world-class research. In recent years, we are quickly developing toward a diverse and international research institute by inviting worldwide students and researchers to study or work at XJTU. We sincerely welcome you to join us.
