The research group of Prof. Wenchao Ge (https://sites.google.com/view/wenchaoge) in the Department of Physics at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in theoretical quantum information science and engineering (QISE). The successful candidate will conduct theoretical research at the intersection of Quantum Optics, Quantum Information, and AMO physics, with a focus on multi-parameter quantum sensing and trapped-ion quantum information processing. Topics of interest include but are not limited to, distributed quantum sensing, operational quantum resource theories, trapped-ion quantum computing and quantum sensing, and benchmarking protocols with IBM quantum computers.

The group has a track record of collaborations with leading theoretical and experimental groups in QISE in the US. The Department of Physics has launched an initiative in QISE with an online Graduate Certificate in Quantum Computing and a MS degree in Quantum Computing. The University has negotiated direct access to IBM’s quantum computers beginning in January 2023, which will include the new 433-qubit Osprey. The University is located in a beautiful place to live with coastal sceneries.

A Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field is required to be considered for this position. The candidate needs to have excellent writing and oral communication skills in English. The appointment is for two years with a possible extension. The expected starting date is September 2023. Competitive compensation for the position will be provided and travel support is available.

To apply, please send the following information to Dr. Ge directly (email: [email protected]): a CV with a list of publications, a cover letter describing your research experience and relevance to the position advertised, and the contact information of three references. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
