The Trapped Ion Quantum Technology group at Stockholm University invites applications for a PhD position to work on novel methods for quantum sensing of electric and electromagnetic fields with trapped ions in ground and Rydberg states.
Trapped ions excited to Rydberg states are a new experimental system. Here, the ions’ outermost electron is excited to a high-lying Rydberg orbital. Such Rydberg ions are million times bigger than ions in the ground state, and due to their size obtain very peculiar properties. In particular, trapped Rydberg ions have strong transition dipole moments and become highly sensitive to microwave and terahertz radiation.
The experimental PhD project will take place in the Trapped Ion Quantum Technology group at Stockholm University and is supported by the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT), which receives funding from Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation.
Closing date: 3 November 2023. For more information please visit our group website and/or contact Assoc. Prof. Markus Hennrich, [email protected].
