Call for post-doc position: "Exploring the evolution of natural systems under the light of quantum theory. A theoretical and computational analysis. Implications on quantum and quantum-like machine learning"
General Conditions
The post-doc position is offered by the University of Cagliari (Italy) for 18 months (renewable for an additional 6 months). The net salary will be approximately 1700-1800 euros per month. Part of the work can be done remotely. The Deadline for application is January 19th.
Research Topics
The general research topics will focus on the following overarching questions:
1. What delineates the boundaries governing the application of quantum theory to natural phenomena?
2. Which fundamental principles of quantum physics and micro-system properties can be extrapolated to broader natural processes?
Addressing these open problems will necessitate establishing a comprehensive logical framework to comprehend the dynamics of quantum systems. This research endeavors to yield insights into the advantages and limitations associated with employing quantum approaches in diverse non-standard domains, particularly within the realms of quantum machine learning and quantum-inspired machine learning. Specifically, the research activities will be directed towards exploring and developing novel applications of quantum information theory in machine learning.
Required Profile
The researcher should adopt a strongly interdisciplinary approach, possessing a robust background in theoretical physics, especially in quantum computation and quantum information, as well as in machine learning. It is also requested to have experience with Python. In particular, with specific libraries for quantum machine learning (such as PyTorch, PennyLane, etc.). A highly collaborative approach, emphasizing teamwork, and a consistent focus on achieving scientifically impactful results are essential traits for this position.
