UKZN is establishing a Centre for Quantum Computing and Technology with an emphasis on use cases for quantum computing and creating Quantum Key Distribution and quantum imaging devices. For this purpose, as well as to enhance the teaching and research capabilities in physics, the School seeks to appoint suitably qualified candidates to the permanent staff at Westville Campus with expertise in applied quantum computing, experimental quantum optics and quantum imaging, and at Pietermaritzburg Campus with expertise in Condensed Matter Physics (experimental/ computational/ quantum computing).

The incumbents will be expected to conduct independent, externally funded research in Quantum Computing or Quantum Technology or, in Pietermaritzburg, Condensed Matter Physics of relevance to Quantum Computing or Quantum Technology in the new Centre and to participate actively in teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate levels in physics.

The incumbents will report to the Academic Leaders: Physics.
