We are seeking a motivated PhD student to join an exciting project focused on bridging the gap between rigorous security proofs and their practical applications in real-world scenarios. This position is part of the NSPT-QKD consortium, funded by FFG, and offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with industry partners while working at TU Wien.
About the Role:
The PhD student will engage in interdisciplinary research, applying expertise from various academic backgrounds such as Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics. The project involves learning and working with different programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB), semidefinite programming techniques, and mathematical reasoning. Additionally, the role provides the opportunity to gain specialized knowledge in quantum information, cryptography, and cybersecurity, with a focus on both theoretical and practical aspects of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD).
We strongly believe that diversity fosters creativity in research and beyond, and we encourage applications from all qualified candidates. We are looking for candidates who are committed, curious, and eager to grow into independent quantum researchers with a versatile skill set. While prior familiarity with topics related to QKD is preferred, we offer the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in these areas.
What We Offer:
Be part of a young, dynamic, and diverse team at the Atominstitut, TU Wien (this opportunity is a joint appointment within Gláucia Murta's Quantum Foundations and Cryptography group and Elizabeth Agudelo's Theoretical Quantum Optics group).
Opportunities to present your work at international conferences.
Support for advancing mentoring and public communication skills.
Flexible starting dates between 12.2024 - 06.2025.
The PhD appointment has an annual salary of approximately €25,000 after taxes. Health care is also covered.
