We are currently seeking applicants for a postdoctoral or staff scientist position (more than 5 years post PhD) in experimental optics with a focus on whispering gallery resonators for studying non-Hermitian physics, nonlinear optics, and quantum sensing. The position will be based in the Cavity and Sensing Group of the Light-Matter Interactions for Quantum Technologies (LMI-QT) Unit (https://groups.oist.jp/light) run by Sile Nic Chormaic at OIST Graduate University, Okinawa, Japan. The group has several projects currently underway, with a focus on quantum sensing using NV-diamond, chaotic 3D microcavities, plasmonic cavities, and single particle sensing using WGM cavities. The newly appointed researcher would be expected to contribute to several of these experimental activities and continue our international collaborations.
LMI-QT is a member of the OIST Center for Quantum Technologies (https://www.oist.jp/ocqt) and benefits from a vibrant, English-speaking research community within the university. We have excellent experimental, nanofabrication and computational facilities available for our research and are keen to continue with our previous successes related to WGM research and exploring novel hybrid systems.
Candidates should be highly independent, motivated, and have a proven track record in a related area. They must hold a PhD or equivalent in experimental physics (or electronic engineering) with a specialisation in optics or quantum optics. The ideal candidate will be able to contribute positively to our research through conference presentations, paper writing, and team work in our international group of researchers and students. English is the working language of the university and the candidate must have a fluency in scientific discussions. The position will be advertised until a suitable candidate is identified.
OIST Graduate University (www.oist.jp) is a unique research-focussed education institute established in 2011 and situated on the beautiful subtropical island of Okinawa, Japan. Okinawa is located less than 3-hours by flight from major cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Hong Kong and also has direct flights to other major Asian cities, such as Singapore and Bangkok.
Inquiries and applications should be sent by email to Sile Nic Chormaic ([email protected]) and must include a detailed CV including previous degrees/grades, a list of publications, and the names and contact details of at least 3 academic referees. The position will be available from early 2025.
