The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to do theoretical work in quantum computing and quantum information, in particular on the exploration of quantum simulation using continuous-variable quantum optical systems.

The successful candidate will work on continuous- and discrete-variable quantum information at the interface with condensed matter theory in direct collaboration between the experimental quantum optics group of Olivier Pfister and theory group of Israel Klich. Demonstrated experience with continuous-variable quantum information is a plus; however, all candidates with superior proficiency in quantum information, AMO physics and/or condensed matter theory will be considered. The completion of a Ph.D. degree in Physics or closely related field by appointment start date is required. Candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills. This is a one-year appointment, however, the appointment may be renewed for one additional one-year term, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
