The new theory group led by Oriol Romero-Isart at the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI Innsbruck, Austria) announces the opening of PhD and PostDoc positions, to be filled in from 1st November 2013. PhD appointments are for up to 4 years, while PostDoc appointments are for 1+1 years.
The main focus of the research will be on the project “Harnessing Quantum Systems with Superconductivity and Magnetism” (QSuperMag), which has been recently awarded the ERC Starting Grant 2013. This project is devoted to developing the theory and proposing experiments to harness quantum degrees of freedom with magnetic fields and superconductors. This aims at accessing an unprecedented parameter regime in the fields of quantum nano- and micro-mechanical oscillators, quantum simulation with ultracold atoms, and solid-state quantum information processing.
The group is part of an exciting research environment with the presence of world-leading theoretical and experimental groups in quantum optics, ultracold gases, and quantum information. The group will also have a strong collaboration with experimental and theoretical groups outside Innsbruck (e.g. the groups of Prof. J. I. Cirac at the Max-Planck Institute for Quantum Optics, Prof. M. Aspelmeyer at the University of Vienna, and Prof. A. Sanchez at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).
PostDoc applications - containing CV, publication list, past research achievements, brief motivation letter including future research plans, and contact details of at least three potential referees - should be submitted electronically using the subject line “PostDoc2013” to [email protected].
PhD applications - containing CV, publications (if available), grades from university studies, motivation letter, and contact details of at least one potential referee - should be submitted electronically using the subject line “PhD2013” to [email protected].
The deadline for applications is 15th September 2013. Post-deadline applications will be considered until the positions are filled.
This announcement is for information purposes only. The formal appointment will be made through the Institute and University HR department at a later stage.
