The Department of Computer Science of Technical University of Darmstadt invites applications for the position of an
Assistant Professor (W2 Tenure Track) for Quantum Computing
starting as soon as possible.
We are looking for a rising talent with an excellent scientific profile, documented through an outstanding pertinent dissertation and by publications at top international conferences and in academic journals. Candidates with the ability and willingness to collaborate, documented, for example, via joint publications with (international) peers and/or joint research projects, are especially welcome. The candidate should demonstrate a proven record in one or more of the following fields:
• Quantum algorithms
• Quantum engineering
• Quantum programming systems
• Quantum compilers
• Simulation of quantum computers
The advertised position is expected to strengthen key application areas of quantum computing at the university. Within computer science, these include artificial intelligence, cryptography, data management, and high-performance computing. Collaboration outside computer science, supporting fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, or economics, is desired as well.
The successful candidate is expected to present an outstanding scientific CV, documenting first successes and clearly showing potential for further development. Commitment to teaching in our bachelor and master programs in computer science is of importance. Participation in academic governance is expected. A written teaching and research concept shall be submitted; it shall also include cooperation intentions at our department and university.

The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to § 64 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz); it is initially financed as part of a joint federal and state program for the promotion of young researchers (www.tenuretrack.de), whose regulations it also adheres to. Accordingly, the maximum period of scientific activities after the PhD degree should not exceed four years. Furthermore, applicants should have completed their PhD degree at a university other than Technical University of Darmstadt or have been scientifically active outside Technical University of Darmstadt for at least two years after the PhD degree.
Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W2 Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz. The position is initially limited to six years. The position comes with the option of a tenured professorship after a successfully completed tenure process. The tenure process, which can be initiated one and a half years before the end of the assistant professorship, evaluates the corresponding achievements in research and teaching. After a successful probationary phase, the immediate transition to a tenured professorship is granted. For further information please see the tenure guidelines of Technical University of Darmstadt.
