In integrated photonics the testing and characterisation of the components and circuits is of crucial importance to validate ideas, improve designs but also to assess the full photonic system. Because of the many components which can be integrated into one PIC, this is a challenging but rewarding job and as a characterisation and testing engineer this is your turf! You check the PICs as they come fresh from the fab and make sure, they perform as they should. You dynamically develop and adopt test procedures to benchmark the latest layouts and designs. The results you analyse and present to the team. And to bolster your claims with solid statistics, you are not afraid to implement the required routines to obtain the mesurements in an automatised way.

Your tasks

  • Design and implement test procedures for integrated photonic components
  • Characterise entire photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for their different properties
  • Organise and analyse data to find patterns which indicate, how to improve our designs and processes
  • Implement control and automatisation routines in the lab
  • Collect the input you need from all stake holders in our PIC development
  • Confront the layout and design team with the reality of your measurements

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master's degree or Ph.D. in experimental physics, photonics, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with optical experiments, ideally with free-space and fibre-based setups
  • Very good practical intuition in the lab and ability for learning by doing
  • Very good understanding of optical principles and components
  • Experience with Python is a big plus
  • Open for an agile, innovative and entrepreneurial environment
  • Good language skills English; skills in German are a plus

Location

Stuttgart (Germany)
