PhD position (experimental quantum optics) at the University of Bonn, Germany

Job type:

Application deadline:

Friday, March 17, 2023

The Quantum Fluids of Light group led by Julian Schmitt at the Institute of Applied Physics, University of Bonn (Germany) is inviting applications for a PhD position. The position is funded within an ERC Starting Grant. The specific research aims are as follows:

PhD position in experimental quantum optics ‘Finite-Temperature Topology Emulation with Photons’: the successful candidate will experimentally realise and explore open-system topological states in arrays of photon Bose-Einstein condensates within an optical microcavity, by developing optical imaging and spectroscopy setups. A central goal of the project is engineering of reservoirs for photon condensates to study topologically protected quantum states in the presence of statistical fluctuations.

Candidates should send a full CV including certificates to [email protected] and provide contact details for a referee. Further information on the position is available upon request. The deadline is March 17th, 2023. Later applications will be considered in case the position will not have been filled. The expected starting date is mid-2023 (partially negotiable).
