PhD position in Quantum Communication and Decoding

The newly established Group of Quantum Optical Communication and Metrology of Roma Tre University in Rome, Italy, is looking for a PhD candidate starting in the academic year 2023/2024. The PhD fellowship is financed by the EU and the National Recovery Plan, via a research project on Quantum Communication led by the Principal Investigator, Dr. Matteo Rosati.

The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to do research in theoretical physics / applied mathematics, with the objective of studying the decoding of information transmitted using quantum systems. Apart from the intrinsic theoretical interest, such objective comes with a strong practical motivation: the discovery of a decoder design that can be built with current technology would significantly improve current optical-fiber and free-space communication rates, as well as impact security and entanglement-assisted transmission.

The ideal candidate has a M.Sc. Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or Engineering, with a good mathematical background.
The call is expected to open within summer 2023, possibly as soon as June.

Interested candidates are kindly requested to contact Dr. Matteo Rosati at [email protected] for further details, attaching a CV (best within the month of May).
