We offer a 2-years post-doctoral position (with possible extension) for a motivated experimental researcher to join our work on spin qubits in silicon carbide and diamond. Our goal is to push the limits in controlling individual electron and nuclear spins by utilising advances signal processing techniques such as adaptive Bayesian estimation and deep learning. We have pioneered the application of Bayesian inference to quantum sensing (see for example these papers: Nature Nano 2016, NJP 2020, NPJ Quantum Info 2021) and we currently operate a unique adaptive setup capable of performing online Bayesian estimation in <100 microseconds. The researcher is expected to contribute to the research activities in the group, taking a leading role in designing and carrying out experiments and in supervising junior researchers.
Where: the research will be carried out in the Quantum Photonics Lab at Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh, UK), under the supervision of Dr Cristian Bonato. The Quantum Photonics Lab (QPL), jointly led by Dr Bonato and Prof Gerardot, works on quantum devices in different material platforms, such as diamond, SiC, “beyond graphene” 2D materials and III-V semiconductors. The lab hosts state-of-the-art facilities, including several cryostats, superconducting single-photon detectors, tuneable lasers and radio-frequency equipment for high-fidelity spin manipulation.
Who: we are looking for a researcher with a passion for experimental science and a background in quantum technology. Previous expertise on quantum optics and/or microwave qubit control is welcome, but motivated candidates with different backgrounds will be considered.
We are looking for candidates to start as soon as possible.
Please contact Dr Cristian Bonato ([email protected]) for inquiries (as soon as possible).
