Postdoc in Quantum Computing with Solid State Spin Qubits

The Institute of Theoretical Physics (ITP) at Ulm University, led by Martin B Plenio and Susana F Huelga, invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral position.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for theoretical quantum physics and the willingness to collaborate and the ability to supervise. The position will be based at our state-of-the-art research building, located on the main University Campus within the newly establish Center of Quantum BioSciences.

You will have the opportunity to join an interdisciplinary, international, and diverse research group comprising more than 30 members from 13 different nations. This collaborative environment fosters creativity, encourages knowledge exchange, and provides an excellent platform for personal and professional growth. The project team, currently composed of one postdoc and two PhD students, is dedicated to advancing the development of quantum information processors based on optically active solid-state spins which may include colour centers in diamond or synthetic molecules. Your expertise and leadership will be instrumental in driving our research forward.

The ITP focuses on a broad range of cutting-edge research topics in quantum physics, including quantum resource theories, quantum thermodynamics, optimization methods, open quantum systems, quantum sensing and metrology, low-energy tests of quantum gravity, quantum computation and simulation, quantum-enabled medical imaging, and quantum effects in biology. Our close collaboration with two spin-out companies, NVision Imaging Technologies and QCDesign, co-founded by our Institute Director, Martin B Plenio, further enhances our research impact and offers unique opportunities for innovation and industry engagement. The ITP is a recipient of an ERC Synergy grant called HyperQ and actively participates in major national and international research collaborations.

Our partnerships include the national quantum computing projects such as Spinning, CoGeQ, and PhoQuant as well as the Future Technology Cluster QSens and the Quantum-enabled medical imaging cluster QuE-MRT, supported by the German Ministry for Science and Education (BMBF). At the European level, we contribute to Quantera projects like ExtraQt and Lemaqume, as well as the EU Projects QuMicro, SPINUS and C-QuENS.
