Research group:

We are looking for three Postdoctoral Research Associates for the EPSRC-funded project “Rubber DUQ: flexible Dynamic Universal Quantum programming” three years each. The project aims to prototype a quantum programming language based on categorical universal properties such as quantum information effects, implement a compiler, and quantify its robustness, and develop automated strategies to trade off resilience to noise against speed or accuracy. There are both theoretical components, involving research into category theory and quantum information theory, and practical components, involving implementation and case studies. Apply here and/or here or get in touch with Dr. Chris Heunen [email protected] for more information.

Summary of the Job description:

Research Associates.
Grade UE07, salary range: £37,099 - £44,263pa
University of Edinburgh, College of Science and Engineering, School of Informatics, Quantum Software Lab
Fixed-term, Full time (35 hours)
Available for 36 months
3 posts available

This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

The Opportunity:
The EPSRC-funded project “Rubber DUQ: flexible Dynamic Universal Quantum programming” aims to prototype a quantum programming language based on categorical universal properties such as quantum information effects, implement a compiler, and quantify its robustness, and develop automated strategies to trade off resilience to noise against speed or accuracy.
There are both theoretical components, involving research into category theory and quantum information theory, and practical components, involving implementation and case studies. You will work within this broad project as one of three Research Associates, directed by Dr. Chris Heunen, and several PhD students. You will be part of a larger team in Quantum Informatics, and be part of the NQCC Quantum Software Lab.

Your skills and attributes for success:
Degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
PhD (or near completion) in computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field.

The following criteria are not yes/no factors, but questions of degree. Recruitment will aim at selecting those candidates with the best possible performance in all these criteria.

Experience of research in quantum computing or programming languages.
Preferably, experience in categorical semantics, design of programming languages or compilers, foundations of quantum computing, quantum circuit synthesis, approximative techniques for quantum computing, or quantum algorithm discovery.
Demonstrated quality of research performance
Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing.

Please note only interviewed candidates will be provided feedback.
