Postdoctoral openings in Sherbrooke

Job type:

Application deadline:

Sunday, August 30, 2020

The Quantum Information & Computational Physics (QuICoPhy) theory lab of Prof. Stefanos Kourtis in the Department of Physics at Université de Sherbrooke is looking to recruit up to two postdoctoral researchers with a background and interest in quantum condensed-matter theory, quantum information, and computational problems in general. The appointments will be for two years with a possibility of renewal for a third year. The anticipated start date is February 2021 but later start dates are possible.

The postdoctoral researcher(s) will be associated with the Institut quantique (IQ) at Université de Sherbrooke, a dynamic environment offering great freedom and resources to enhance their career development. Benefits of the association with IQ include access to an internal funding competition for individual or collaborative projects, dedicated support for patent applications, and entrepreneurship training opportunities. The recruit(s) will also be considered for a prestigious IQ postdoctoral fellowship.

IQ recently joined the IBM Q Network to become the first IBM Q Hub in Canada. The postdoctoral researcher(s) will thus have cloud-based access to IBM's most advanced quantum computing systems and software, including a 53-qubit system, and will be encouraged to incorporate these tools into their research. IQ also offers close proximity to and opportunities for scientific interactions with world-class experimental labs and theoretical expertise in quantum condensed matter, quantum information, and their confluence.

Sherbrooke is a regional center for a population of about a quarter million, located in the Northern Appalachian region. Home to two universities, it has a vibrant cultural life and is a haven for outdoors lovers. Sherbrooke is also 90 minutes from Montréal, 3 hours from Québec City, and 5 hours from Boston by car.

All qualified individuals are invited to apply, and women, members of visible and ethnic minorities, and persons with disabilities are particularly encouraged to do so.

To apply, send a CV and a short description of research interests to [email protected]. Ensure that two letters of recommendation are sent to the same address as well. Consideration of applications will begin in August 2021.
