The Quantum Information and Inference group led by Jan Kolodynski at the Centre of New Technologies (CeNT) of the University of Warsaw offers a 2(+1)-year postdoctoral position within the project Continuously Monitored Quantum Sensors: Smart Tools and Applications (C'MON-QSENS!)
funded by the QuantERA EU programme in Quantum Technologies. The appointment will be for two years with a one-year extension option.
The successful candidate will work on the following or akin research topics depending on her/his inclination towards analytic and/or numerical theoretical physics; software-development experience and interests:
- quantum dynamical models of hot (also multi-species) atomic sensors that include dominant decoherence and collision (e.g. spin-exchange) mechanisms, when measured continuously with light;
- numerical simulations (quantum trajectories, Monte-Carlo) of optomechanical and atomic sensors operating in real time with applications and analysis of current experiments;
- development of software data-inference and signal-processing tools (Bayesian filtering, compressed sensing, machine learning) for them to be robust, efficient and compatible with (real-time) quantum sensing tasks;
The work will be conducted under the supervision of Jan Kolodynski, however, in close collaboration (long-term visits, also to experimental teams, are fully supported financially and encouraged) with other members of the C’MON-QSENS! Consortium:
- Klaus Mølmer (Aarhus University, DK)
- John Calsamiglia (Autonomous University of Barcelona, ES)
- Yonina Eldar (Weizmann Institute of Science, IL)
- Witlef Wieczorek (Chalmers University of Technology, SE)
- Kasper Jensen (University of Nottingham, UK)
Profile of the candidate:
Candidates should have a PhD degree in physics or a related area (e.g. engineering, computer science). The degree should be obtained not earlier than 7 years before the employment in the project.
Familiarity with the theory of atom-light interactions and the formalism of continuous-time quantum measurements including (quantum) stochastic calculus or, in case of a more software-biased profile, experience in implementing signal-processing and data-inference tools especially in quantum applications is highly desired but, in principle, not essential.
Salary:
10 000 PLN of full remuneration cost, i.e. expected net salary at 6000-7000 PLN (~1600 EUR).
Applications for extra independent scholarships of Polish institutions will be encouraged and supported.
Application deadline:
5 April 2020
Expected starting date:
4 May 2020 or later
Further information:
For further information about the application process, please, consult the attachment (written in both English and Polish) of the official announcement at the CeNT website.
