Université de Sherbrooke invites applications for a regular junior or senior professor in experimental or theoretical quantum information. This is a full-time regular position in the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Science.

About the Department

The Department of Physics at the Université de Sherbrooke specializes in quantum information and quantum materials, both in their experimental and theoretical aspects. The professors of the Department of Physics are members of the Institut quantique, a research institute with close to 40 professors from the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Humanities and the School of Management, 25 technical and professional staff members, and over 200 students. The new professor will benefit from a dynamic research environment consisting of

- collaborative spaces located in the new Institut quantique building, which opened in 2022
- several open platforms such as the Quantum Fab Lab (measurement and control equipment for quantum circuits), IMDQ and 3IT.nano (clean rooms for nanofabrication), AlgoLab (digital computing resources, access to IBM Q and other online quantum computing services)
- the Quantum Science and Technology Applications Innovation Zone, a Sherbrooke ecosystem of quantum technology startups supported by more than $435M in investment
- several networks such as the INstitut TRansdisciplinaire d'Information Quantique (INTRIQ) and the Regroupement Québécois sur les Matériaux de Pointe (RQMP). The Institut quantique hosts a CNRS International Research Laboratory (IRL) with France.

Functions

- Teach at all three university levels in French, including the new B.Sc. program in Quantum Information Science.
- Supervise graduate students.
- Conduct cutting-edge research leading to a deeper understanding of quantum information.
- Participate in university life.
- Provide services to the community.

Requirements

- Have a PhD in physics or other relevant discipline and postdoctoral experience.
- Develop a strong research program.
- Have a strong interest in teaching.
- Demonstrate strong pedagogical skills in teaching and supervising graduate students.
- Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships, collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equality, equity and inclusion in the Department of Physics.
- Ability to comply with the requirements of responsible research conduct.
- Have the ability to teach in French or to achieve this ability within a reasonable time frame.

The working conditions are governed by the collective agreements in force.

Regular, full-time, tenure-track position.

Anticipated start date: June 2024 or according to availability.
