Research group:

The project is to carry out research in broad theoretical areas of classical and/or quantum non-equilibrium physics, including condensed matter, statistical mechanics, atomic physics, and machine learning.

One area of interest will be exploring the connections between methods and ideas of classical and quantum non-equilibrium systems with approaches and techniques in deep learning and neural networks.

The researcher will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers covering a broad range of topics including statistical physics, condensed-matter theory, computational physics, atomic physics and quantum optics, soft-matter physics, and machine learning as applied to physics. We seek a motivated, skilled and highly independent researcher to complement our team.

The researcher is expected to actively contribute to the research activities of the condensed matter theory group at the School of Physics and Astronomy.

The post is available immediately and will be offered on a fixed term contract until 31 May 2021. Job share arrangements may be considered.

The salary is £27025 to £39609 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £30395 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance
