Research Fellow in Quantum Information and Simulation with Rydberg Ions

University of Nottingham - School of Physics & Astronomy

£27,854 - £36,298 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

A suitably qualified and experienced individual is required to carry out independent research on systems consisting of electronically highly excited trapped (Rydberg) ions. The research is aiming to characterise the properties of trapped ions in Rydberg states and to identify and analyse quantum gate protocols and engineered spin models that rely on the properties of these Rydberg states.

Candidates must have BSc/Mphys degree or equivalent in physics, a PhD or equivalent in physics or are related to the subject and experience in theoretical atomic physics. Expertise in the physics of Rydberg states, quantum information processing and condensed matter physics is desirable. Candidates should be confident, organised, have good communication skills and enjoy working with a variety of different international people across discipline boundaries. The role will require the successful candidate to actively contribute to the research activities of the condensed matter theory group and the cold atoms group.

This full-time post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until the 31 October 2014.
