The University of Surrey is looking to employ a full time Post Doctoral Fellow in theoretical condensed matter physics for a fixed term two year position with a possibility for extension. The focus of the position is to research high-frequency properties of devices incorporating topological insulator (TI) materials with focus on charge and light-matter based probes. The position is part of an EC project HiTIMe. The outcomes will also be directly relevant to other nano-electronic devices utilizing TI materials, such as hybrid devices for quantum information processing, sensing and metrological applications.
The post holder will be based at the University of Surrey and conduct theoretical research in this area of condensed matter and will be expected to work towards the success of the project according to plans and needs of the collaboration. Other responsibilities will include supervision of students.
The successful candidate should hold a PhD in the relevant field and have a strong research track record, including academic publications. He/she must hold good analytical and computational skills and have the ability to analyse and solve complex problems.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£30,688) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate. Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£31,604).
