Research Fellow in Theory of Control and Quantum State Measurement in Superconducting Circuits
Salary: £29,837 to £32,590
Closing Date: Wednesday 16 July 2014

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position starting on 1 September 2014 (or soon thereafter if a later start is required by the successful applicant) to build a quantum mechanical model for non-classical state generation, propagation and measurement in superconducting qubit-cavity networks.
Solid-state superconducting devices, described by the theoretical framework of circuit quantum electrodynamics, realise a quantum optical laboratory and a platform for quantum information processing. The project aims to develop schemes for generating and utilizing squeezed states in distributed superconducting circuits.
In addition to a Ph.D. degree in physics, it is also desirable that the successful candidate will have expertise of theoretical modelling in quantum optics. Background in superconducting circuits is an advantage.
This is a 15 months post which is part of an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funded project. A budget for travel and other expenses will be provided, and there will be several opportunities to attend related conferences. The researcher will have access to significant local high-end computing facilities including HPC and GPUs.
The Theory and Photonics groups are part of the Advanced Technology Institute (ATI) and the Department of Physics at the University of Surrey. The ATI is an interdisciplinary research centre bringing together over 100 electronic engineers, physicists and chemists working in photonics, functional nanomaterials, large area and carbon based electronics, sensor technology, microwave electronics, optoelectronics, ion beam technology, and quantum information processing.
