Seeking Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Theoretical Quantum Optics

The Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Theoretical Quantum Optics at the assistant or associate professor level to start January 2009. All applicants must have a PhD in Physics or equivalent, postdoctoral experience in theoretical quantum optics, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and a strong record of research achievements in quantum optics, especially in the nexus between quantum optics and quantum information science. The successful applicant will also have a track record of successful collaboration with experimentalists. The successful candidate will be required to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct a vigorous research program.

Position Requirements

The University of Calgary is the home of the multidisciplinary Institute for Quantum Information Science (http://iqis.org/). Hosted within the Department of Physics and Astronomy (http://www.phas.ucalgary.ca), the Institute has six faculty members in three Departments: Computer Science, Physics & Astronomy, and Mathematics & Statistics. Areas of research in the Institute include experimental quantum communication, information processing, and storage, and theoretical work on optical quantum information gates, quantum information processing in cold atoms and molecules, quantum resource theory including entanglement, one-way quantum computing and graph states, universal quantum simulators, and quantum algorithms and complexity.
