Three-year Postdoctoral Position in COMPLEX QUANTUM SYSTEMS for MACHINE LEARNING

Job type:

Application deadline:

Tuesday, December 5, 2023

Research group:

Three-year Postdoctoral Position in COMPLEX QUANTUM SYSTEMS for MACHINE LEARNING at IFISC (Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (CSIC-UIB) in Palma de Mallorca (Spain), partially funded by Quantum Spain within the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (Quantum ENIA, https://quantumspain-project.es/) and partially funded by the AEI national project CoQuSy.

Who: We look for outstanding and motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in Physics or related disciplines and a background in Quantum Physics. Experience in quantum complex systems and machine learning will be highly valued. Salary and benefits are competitive with international standards (gross salary 50k Euros).
IFISC is committed to equal opportunity and diversity. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates. Women and members of underrepresented minority groups are particularly encouraged to apply.

Where: IFISC (Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems) is a joint research institute of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) recognized as a "Unit of Excellence" MarĂa de Maeztu Award and a member of the SOMMa alliance, which brings together the cutting-edge research centers and units in Spain. The successful candidate will join the Complex Quantum Systems group at IFISC of Roberta Zambrini, Gian Luca Giorgi, and Gonzalo Manzano.

When: The position is for three years starting in January/February 2024.

What: the goal of the project is to advance the study of quantum machine learning with neuromorphic methods that are based on complex systems. In particular, the main but not exclusive focus is on quantum reservoir computing from basic concepts, to assess their advantage, to the design of implementations, benchmarking the energetic costs of different architectures. Other neuromorphic computing approaches such as quantum associative memory or variational quantum eigensolvers also fall within the broad scope of the project.

Interested candidates should send by 5 December 2023
- a motivation letter
- a detailed CV comprising a publication list
- the electronic (email) contact details of two potential references.
