Vacancy in cutting-edge research in an European research project waits for a talented postdoc or a PhD graduate

Are you a mathematician? Or a computer scientist or quantum physics? Would you like to work on creating new quantum algorithms? Knowledge on quantum mechanics is not necessary! Instead, we will build on group theory and discrete mathematics. Quantum algorithms implement mathematical transforms using quantum bits over certain groups. This is like designing an algorithm for parallel computing.

If you are highly creative and hold a PhD in mathematics, computer science or quantum physics or you will graduate in the next few months, then join our multi-national Quantum Technologies Research Group led by Prof. Magdalena Stobińska at the University of Warsaw. We have now an open position in an European research project which we plan to fill as soon as possible.

Although the group is primarily theoretical, the work will be carried out in close collaboration with experimentalists, with a possibility of participating in building the proofs of concept. We expect some experience in numerical programming, a high level of scientific output, including publications in good scientific journals, attending conferences, seminars, and workshops, as well as participation in attractive outreach activities targeting the general public.

In return, the group offers excellent international collaboration with teams from e.g. the Imperial College London, University of Oxford, University of Vienna, Sorbonne University, University of Padova, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Institute for Quantum Computing / University of Waterloo, European Space Agency, IBM Research, NTT Basic research Labs and many other entities.

The postdocs will also have opportunity to apply for their own grants or fellowships to develop themselves as scientists. We strongly encourage to build each own’s scientific maturity, supervise PhD students and working towards tenure position / habilitation degree.

The position is foreseen for a 36-month full-time employment with possibility of an extension in the case of a positive employee evaluation. The employment law guarantees full social security (health insurance, including the spouse and children), pension fund, and other benefits.

About us: The Quantum Technologies Research Group was funded in 2017. Currently, it consists of the leader, Prof. Magdalena Stobińska, 4 postdocs, 4 PhD students, 2 undergraduate students and an administrative assistant. The group is located at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw.
