Quantum Roundabout is a postgraduate conference on quantum physics, to be held between the 6th and 8th of July of 2016 at the School of Mathematical Sciences of The University of Nottingham. This event intends to bring together early career researchers, working at the crossroads between physics and applied mathematics, providing them with the opportunity to network and interact with their peers in related areas, as well as recognised experts.

The new round of Anne McLaren Fellowships (for women in science) and Nottingham Research Fellowships (for all candidates) at the University of Nottingham is now open. The Fellowships are open to outstanding early career researchers with up to 8 years of postdoctoral experience. The Fellowships offer a three year competitive salary, with a link to a permanent academic position at the end of the project (subject to performance).

Applications are invited for two postdoctoral positions to work with Dr Gerardo Adesso on an ERC Starting Grant project entitled “Genuine quantumness in cooperative phenomena” funded by the European Research Council. The principal goal of the project is to analyse and challenge the quantum-classical border from a jointly fundamental and applicative viewpoint. The project is expected to deliver novel tools for the characterisation of quantumness in composite systems and to develop novel platforms for its practical utilisation in quantum technology applications.

The workshop will cover a broad range of topics in quantum control, from fundamental questions to technological applications. It will consist of a first part focused on information-theoretic aspects of quantum control and complexity, and a second part focused on experimental challenges and nuclear magnetic resonance applications.
The workshop will gather experts and early stage researchers, fostering discussions and exchanges. There will be tutorial lectures, invited and contributed talks, a poster session, and an industry session.
