Your Mission
We offer a full-time or part-time position in the Physical Foundations of IT Security team within the Terahertz and Laser Spectroscopy Department in the DLR Institute of Optical Sensor Systems. Our research interest is the realization of physical model systems for photonic and quantum information processing. This includes quantum light sources and quantum memories for repeater-based quantum communication and optical quantum computing, but also optical neuromorphic computing architectures for artificial intelligence.

Are you a mathematician? Or a computer scientist or quantum physics? Would you like to work on creating new quantum algorithms? Knowledge on quantum mechanics is not necessary! Instead, we will build on group theory and discrete mathematics. Quantum algorithms implement mathematical transforms using quantum bits over certain groups. This is like designing an algorithm for parallel computing.
The focus of this project is to realize a small quantum processor node, where the qubits consist of individual ions of Rare-Earth’s (Lanthanides). Such a processor node is a key unit that can be used in several quantum technologies, e.g. both as a quantum computer and for quantum communication. In order to be able to detect individual ions, the project uses an optical micro-cavity to amplify the emission by the Purcell effect.
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland is conducting an open search for an endowed Chair position in the field of Experimental Quantum Technologies. The post and likely associated appointments are in support of our vision to enhance our vibrant environment translating quantum physics from basic research through interdisciplinary technology development to disruptive industrial applications.

Squeezed light, where noise along one component of a signal is reduced below the limit set by the uncertainty principle, is a non-classical resource that has been used extensively to increase the accuracy of measurements. Squeezing has been deployed for the detection of gravitational waves, to improve sensing of magnetic fields and even to speed up the search for dark matter.
